Hi I'm new [Jun. 2nd, 2008|05:55 pm]

hairbraiding

[ceallaighgirl]
Hi, I don't know why I didn't think of joining a hair braiding forum before. I have long straight hair (just past my butt) and the only thing I really can do with it is braid it (even if it was short, it wouldn't hold curls). So I suppose sometime I'll get all nerdy and post some of my braid ideas when I get around to it. :-)

I'm also wondering something -- are there any of you who live in Seattle area who are particularly good at braiding (or know anybody who is)? I'm getting married in August and I'm not really convinced that a professional salon could braid my hair in a way that I'd like them to (they're great at fancy up-dos and whatnot, but most of them don't know how to deal with braiding long hair, I actually went into Gene Juarez to ask them about it and one lady was like, "Ooh, I can french braid!" . . . yeah . . . I can do that myself, I don't need to pay someone $200 to do that, haha).

Anyway, I'm stoked to have found a bunch of people who like braiding (even if the community does seem a bit quiet, oh well). :-)

A good resource for finding someone who can do ornate braids is to check out your local Ren faire circles.

Oh that's a good idea! I know that there are lots of Renaissance Faire people around here.

this comm's a bit dead, i would ask at longhair or niamh_elite :). I would love it if you shared braid ideas here, this comm has potential to get going if a few more people posted I think, heh :).

I did just join longhair too. I'll take a peek at niamh_elite as well!

Ooh I've seen your website before (and drool all over it). I should see the price comparison between hiring someone here to attempt to do my hair versus the cost of an airplane ticket. (The wedding is August 23rd.) How much would you charge in addition to an airplane ticket?

Rats! I'm already lined up to braid for a wedding that day, in Columbus. (Given that this is one of the two weddings I'm scheduled to braid this year, that's pretty impressive....)

Hee, braider beat me to it! I'm in Seattle a lot, though; let me know what the dates are and who knows? Perhaps I'll managed to be in the neighborhood! Welcome to our quiet little corner of the nets, and congrats on your upcoming wedding!

Nice. I'm getting married August 23rd. (Terrible time to get married if you ask me, but my fiancé is in the military and it's the only date we could make work.)

The comm is quiet, yes. The more specific of an interest you get (braids vs just long hair), the harder it is to keep up discussion. And the mod's been ignoring it. :) But several amateur and professional braiders to read here. We welcome your post!
